Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was published 151 years ago today, 26th of November 1865. To honour this classical novel written by Lewis Carroll, I have created the Alice in Wonderland anime tag.
There are 12 animes for 12 chapters in the novel. Each item represents something that is relevant to a theme addressed in the chapter.
Down the rabbit hole
Pick the first anime you’ve watched / remember watching
My favourite movie at the age of 3, my parents would show it to me over and over again. This is probably the earliest childhood memory of me watching something.I’ve watched it so many times that I memorised the song in the movie, even though I couldn’t understand Japanese at the time. I can still remember the song now.
The Pool of Tears
Pick an anime that deals with the battle between reason and emotion.
To kill or not to kill, that is the question.
The Cacus Race and a Long Tale
Pick an anime with a lack of clear purpose or a book that comments on meaninglessness.
Fate/Zero consists of characters who have different ideals, which are all disproven throughout the story. Fate/Zero was truly one of the best nilist stories I’ve ever seen and it had left me feeling cynical for a long time.
The Rabbit Sends a Little bill
Pick an anime that deals with the discomfort of growing up.
Chuunibyou is common among adolescents who are yearning to grow up but at the same time haven’t let go of the imagination as a child. The result is rather embarrassing.
Advice from a Caterpillar
Pick an anime that deals with identity crisis.
Nitori Shuuichi is born a boy who wants to become a girl, Taku is a girls who wants to become a boy.
Pig and Pepper
Pick an anime that challenges traditional social norms.
Suzumiya is defintely not one to follow social norms. So she does the complete opposite of what’s ‘normal’.
A Mad Tea-Party
Pick an anime that challenges principles of the universe.
The personification of countries turned out to be a great idea. Don’t we all hope real international conflicts are just bickering which would be resolved within 1 minute?
The Queen’s Croquet Ground
Pick an anime that deals with the artificial and natural beauty.
The expensive stones and metals and the power contained in the sky castle that people are going after are nothing compared to the nature and lives on the castle.
The Mock Turtle’s Story
Pick an anime that questions morality.
You would question morality as well if you get a notebook that can kill anyone you like. God complex is a dangerous thing.
Pick an anime where a character is isolated, with no one being able to understand them.
Shana has been travelling alone with her sword, taking up other’s identity for her job. But it’s not until Yuuji came along that she started interacting with other people.
Who Stole the Tarts?
Pick an anime that question justice or the legal system.
Psycho-Pass questions a supposedly perfect system that decides who gets to be a part of society and who does not. It can prevent crimes before they happen, completely based on science and free of human error. Until it turned out to be flawed.
Pick an anime where a character has an epiphany.
This anime isn’t called ‘genre-breaking’ for nothing.
So that was the second anime tag I have created. If you liked this tag, please like this post or leave a comment below. If you want to do the tag yourself please leave the url to your blog or channel in the comment section. I’ve also done an book tag, which can be found here.
